1. Who we are
Revelation FM ("we", "us", "the station") is a Christian online radio ministry based in Johannesburg, South Africa, broadcasting at revelationfm.co.za. For the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), Revelation FM is the Responsible Party — we decide why and how your personal information is processed.

2. What we collect
We keep collection to a minimum. Depending on how you use the site, we may process:
Listening analytics
A random, pseudonymous listener ID stored in your browser, your approximate city/country (derived from your IP address via a geolocation lookup), device type, and session duration. This is used only for audience statistics. We do not know who you are from this data.
Live Chat
The display name you type and your message. Messages are reviewed by a moderator before they appear publicly. Your IP address is used briefly, in the background, to apply anti-spam rate limits and is not published.
Prayer Wall
The name you provide and the content of your prayer request. Requests are moderated before publication. Please avoid sharing other people's personal details or sensitive information in a request.
Admin console
For station administrators only: login credentials (passwords stored as hashes), session tokens, and an activity log of moderation and content actions, used for security and accountability.
3. What we do not do
- We do not require listener accounts, registrations, or passwords.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
- We do not use advertising, behavioural-tracking, or third-party marketing cookies.
- We do not collect payment information (there is nothing to buy on this site).
- We do not profile you or make automated decisions about you.
4. Why we process it (lawful grounds)
Under section 11 of POPIA we rely on:
- Your consent — when you voluntarily submit a chat message or prayer request, you consent to it being stored, moderated, and (once approved) displayed publicly.
- Legitimate interest — anonymous audience statistics, security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention, all balanced against your privacy and limited to what is necessary.
5. How long we keep it
- Chat messages & prayer requests — kept while displayed on the site; removed permanently when rejected/deleted by a moderator or when you ask us to delete them.
- Rate-limit data (IP-based) — transient; expires automatically within minutes.
- Listening analytics — pseudonymous session records retained for audience reporting, then aggregated or deleted.
- Your browser's own storage — offline caches expire within 24 hours; you can clear them anytime (see our Cookie Policy).
6. Who we share it with
Only the minimum needed to run the station:
- Our website hosting provider (as an "Operator" under POPIA) stores the site database where chat, prayer, and analytics records live.
- An IP geolocation service receives your IP address only, and returns an approximate city/country — nothing else about you is sent.
- Content delivery networks (Google Fonts, Tailwind, icon libraries) serve styling files to your browser; like any web request, your IP is technically visible to them.
We never share your information beyond this, unless the law requires it.
7. How we protect it
We apply practical safeguards appropriate to a small ministry site: password hashing and token-based sessions for administrators, access-controlled server APIs, IP-based rate limiting against spam and abuse, pre-publication moderation of all public submissions, activity logging of administrative actions, and automatic expiry of cached data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep the risk to your information low.
8. Your rights
You may ask us at any time to:
- Confirm what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
- Correct or update inaccurate information;
- Delete your chat messages or prayer requests (you can also simply ask us to take a specific post down);
- Object to processing or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (details in our POPIA Compliance page).
To exercise any right, email info@revelationfm.co.za with the subject line "POPIA Request". We will respond within a reasonable time (and always within the timeframes POPIA requires). We may need to verify your identity first.
9. Children
Our content is family-friendly, but Live Chat and the Prayer Wall are not directed at children. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before submitting your name or any personal information. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information, and we will remove it if we become aware of it.
10. Cross-border transfers
Some service providers (such as font/script CDNs and the geolocation lookup) may process data outside South Africa. Where this happens, transfers are limited to the minimum technical data required (typically just an IP address) and we rely on providers bound to comparable privacy protections, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top always shows the current version, and material changes will be noted on this page.
