POPIA Compliance

Our commitment to the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA") — South Africa's data-protection law — and to handling your information lawfully, minimally, and transparently.

Last updated: 22 July 2026

1. Our commitment

Revelation FM (the "Responsible Party" under POPIA) is a Christian online radio ministry based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We are committed to processing personal information in accordance with POPIA's eight conditions for lawful processing. Because we are a ministry, we hold ourselves to a simple standard: collect as little as possible, use it only for the reason you gave it, protect it properly, and honour your requests to see, correct, or delete it.

2. The eight conditions — how we meet them

1. Accountability

A designated Information Officer oversees POPIA compliance at the station (see section 3).

2. Processing limitation

We collect the minimum needed, with consent or another lawful basis under section 11, and you may object at any time.

3. Purpose specification

Every item we collect has a stated purpose — moderation, community display, anonymous statistics, or security — listed in our Privacy Policy.

4. Further processing limitation

We never reuse your information for a new, incompatible purpose (such as marketing) without fresh consent.

5. Information quality

We display what you submit as submitted, and will correct or remove inaccurate records on request.

6. Openness

Our practices are documented in this page, the Privacy Policy, and the Cookie Policy.

7. Security safeguards

Access-controlled APIs, hashed passwords, token sessions, rate limiting, pre-publication moderation, and activity logging (section 6).

8. Data subject participation

You can access, correct, and request deletion of your information — free of charge (section 4).

3. Information Officer

Our Information Officer is responsible for POPIA and PAIA matters, including access requests, corrections, deletions, objections, and complaints:

  • The Information Officer — Station Management, Revelation FM
  • info@revelationfm.co.za (subject: "POPIA Request")
  • +27 12 345 6789
  • Johannesburg, South Africa

4. Your rights as a data subject

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • Be notified that your personal information is being collected, and why;
  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction or deletion of inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, outdated, or unlawfully obtained information;
  • Object, on reasonable grounds, to the processing of your information;
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (this does not affect processing already done);
  • Not be subject to decisions made solely by automated processing — we make none;
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (section 8).

How to exercise them: email info@revelationfm.co.za with the subject "POPIA Request", telling us which right you are exercising. We will verify your identity where necessary and respond within 30 days. Exercising your rights is free.

5. PAIA — access to records

The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA) gives you the right to request access to records we hold. A PAIA manual describing our records and the request procedure is available on request from our Information Officer at info@revelationfm.co.za. The Information Regulator's official PAIA guide (in each official language) is available at inforegulator.org.za.

6. Safeguards, operators & breaches

  • Operators: our hosting provider processes site data on our behalf under confidentiality and security obligations, as POPIA sections 20–21 require.
  • Safeguards (section 19): access-controlled server APIs, hashed admin passwords, token-based sessions with expiry, IP-based rate limiting, pre-publication moderation of public submissions, and an administrative activity log.
  • Security compromises (section 22): if a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as soon as reasonably possible, in the manner POPIA prescribes.
  • Cross-border flows (section 72): limited to technical data shared with CDN/font and geolocation providers bound to comparable protections.

7. Direct marketing

We do not send electronic direct marketing, we run no mailing lists from this website, and we never share your details with marketers. Should that ever change, we would ask for your opt-in consent first, as section 69 of POPIA requires.

8. Complaints — the Information Regulator

Please contact our Information Officer first so we can resolve your concern directly. If you remain unsatisfied, you have the right to lodge a complaint (free of charge, using the Regulator's Form 5) with:
